Political Geography announces its 2022 Early Career Researcher Paper Award. The award recognizes an outstanding contribution to the sub-discipline of political geography from a paper published in Political Geography by an Early Career Researcher (ECR). To be eligible, the paper must be published either as an Article in Press or in a regular issue this or the preceding year (2021-2022), and the author should be engaged in full or part-time postgraduate research, or be within six years of the completion of their PhD at time of publication and a primary author (although not necessarily first author) on the article. This time limit excludes any periods of formal career breaks taken for family care responsibilities, health or other personal reasons, or periods spent working outside academia (e.g. in a business or policy environment). Where an article is co-authored by a team also configured of non-ECR colleagues, the paper is still eligible for the prize, providing the ECR scholar(s) involved meet the above criteria.  Where an article is authored by two or more ECRs, the prize relates to all authors of the category and will be allocated as a shared award.

The winning paper will receive an award of £500, and will be made freely available for six months. Papers will be judged on their contribution to political geographies. Contributions may be defined by way of: community engagement or activist approaches; creative use of/contribution to theory; innovative methodology; novel and compelling interdisciplinary angle. No category is held higher than the other, and awards will be made based on two rounds of panel assessments from a panel of the journal editors.

Nominations should be sent to Kevin Grove (pol-geog@fiu.edu) by October 28, 2022.
